The language you use in the workplace reflects your skills and attitude to the job. So it can have a huge impact on the success of your event manager career as a whole. We have compiled a list of six phrases that only a bad event manager would say. Check how often you use them!
1. Always Say “Yes”
You only have one set of hands. So do not take on more responsibilities than you can handle. Declining a project does not make you rude or not ready to help. Rather, it gives you added strength and capacity. Assess each situation: pay attention to the event manager job description, determine priorities, perform your work qualitatively, and manage your time effectively.
2. Not My Fault
Every team member makes mistakes. Instead of pointing blame, work on solving the problem. Great event managers find creative solutions, even to help others outside of their department. In the end, your event management skills and reputation depend on the work of your team as a whole.
3. I Assume So
If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!
A bad event manager always assumes. Instead, the great event manager addresses every question, checks all the facts, and always plans ahead of time. Don’t assume your client has okayed a change in plans. Instead, go above and beyond to ensure client satisfaction and double check every assumption.

4. I Never/Always Do
The best event managers are those who think outside the box. Just because we always did something in a certain way does not mean that this is the only or the best way. Take, for example, the format of conferences—the traditional type of business events has radically changed because we have realized the benefits of interactive sessions, breakout sessions, and informal meetings.
Be open to alternative and innovative ways to solve the event manager tasks. Otherwise, you will always be stuck in the past.

5. It Is Impossible
Some event tasks may seem impossible to tackle. However, you must determine if it is really impossible or you just aren’t willing to sacrifice to accomplish the goal. Take the creative approach, and you’ll be able to achieve more than you ever thought possible.
For example, planning a wedding in less than a week may seem impossible. But that’s exactly what this couple did. They were able to accomplish this feat because they prioritized their wedding planning.
6. I Can’t—I’m Busy
The event planner life is about spontaneity and flexibility. Although you may prefer to work at a 9-to-5 pace, it is not required. To become the best event manager, always be open to new and unique opportunities.
Schedule your day around your clients; don’t make them schedule around you. A bad event manager will turn clients away just because they don’t fit their schedule or cookie-cutter ideology.
